Tenerife has Changed

December 27, 2008

Las Americas is not all what it used to be, the plan to attract affluent tourists appears to have be successful with an upsurge of classy shopping complexes with a plethora of designer retail outlets and upmarket restaurants flourishing everywhere. The emphasis seems to have been on excluding the traditional cheap bars and restaurants, the new breed of tourists are after all more discerning.

The new exclusive 5* Gran Hotel Bahia del Duque Resort in Fanabe and the Deluxe 5* Abama Golf Resort, also near Adeje, are attracting well heeled tourists to Island who might otherwise have flown to other exotic destinations. These resorts are of the finest available anywhere in the world.

The drive towards upmarket tourism will no doubt drive up Las Americas Property prices in the long term when demand outstrips supply. The slack is already being taken up with investors taking advantage of low prices and escaping poor returns due to low interest rates.

New Beach at Playa San Juan

December 19, 2008

The harbour esplanade has been rejuvenated and extended around the bay where the new beach has been created. The new beach was formed using crushed stone and aggregate overlayed with fine golden sand and it is impressive the say the least. The Government invested heavily in this project from which has evolved a wonderful natural looking beach. The beach, being protected in a harbour is very safe for bathers and swimmers.

The beach stretches about half a kilometer around the bay and it has been planted with palm trees to give it a tropical feel. The new beach esplanade has also been landscaped with planting and there are many places to sit and relax. The beach has shower facilities and there is also a kiosk. The local bars and restaurants are also very close by for refreshment.

The new beach esplanade continues around to the old lime kiln and the next bay, which in contrast has a traditional Canarian rocky beach. There is also a paved cliff top path leading up to the Serpent’s head sculpture and beyond to the old disused tuna canning factory. Underneath the cliffs there are many old caves some of which show evidence of past habitation.

To the west of the harbour area there are also a number of excellent sea front bars and restaurants with a variety of different cuisines on offer including traditional Canarian food, tapas and fish.

Playa San Juan promises to be one of those up and coming areas on the Island of Tenerife. Given a new beach this charming fishing village is destined to attract more visitors and Playa San Juan property prices are still relatively cheap.

Tejita Beach Tenerife

December 11, 2008

Tejita Beach is located on the south coast of Tenerife between El Medano and Los Abrigos. It is also known locally as Red Mountain beach or Playa Montana Roja, taking these names from the mountain at the eastern end of the beach. The surrounding area has been recognized as being of ecological importance and it has been designated by the government as a protected nature reserve.

The beach is relatively unknown except to the locals so it is never crowded and it has not been affected by Tenerife tourism. The busiest times are Sunday afternoons and if you are patient enough to wait for sunset, the Red Mountain takes on a strange but spectacular rust coloured glow.

Tenerife Re-invented

December 9, 2008

Tenerife has been successfully re-invented as an affluent tourist destination and inevitably this has lead to an upsurge of high quality Tenerife new developments being constructed, especially around the lush new golf courses.

There are many Tenerife off plan developments both in and around the major resorts but now also in some of the less urbanised areas. Many of the older style properties are being refurbished which is a natural progression because there is so much emphasis on quality in the Tenerife property market.

December 6, 2008

Many people who own Tenerife property visit the Island frequently especially the retired who mostly come to Tenerife to escape harsh winters in northern Europe; they are locally referred to as the swallows.

There is a huge Tenerife rentals market, many property owners let out their properties to the tourist market when they are not using them and Tenerife has always been a popular choice for buy to let investors because of the holiday market. There is also a good opportunity for long term letting, perhaps with the advantage of sustaining a little less wear and tear on the property. There is a wide variety of Los Cristianos Property for rent, perhaps the most popular tourist location on the Island.
