Tenerife the New Golf Paradise

Due to the best all year round climate in the world Tenerife has always been a perpetual tourist magnet but the Island has more to offer than great weather. Traditionally many golfers have headed for the golf courses in Spain and Portugal which are renowned for quality golf and good weather. Tenerife can also offer excellent Golf facilities due to massive investment in golf facilities in recent years. Numerous high quality hotels have also sprung up to support the needs of the most discerning golfing visitor. Tenerife is deservedly gaining repute for being a Golf Paradise.
The first golf course in the North of the Island, Royal Tenerife was founded in 1932 and is one of the oldest golf courses in the Spanish domain. The south of the Island has no fewer than six major golf courses and all are easily accessible. Brief synopsis as follows.
Abama Golf Resort – A spectacular five star golf resort amongst palm trees, the winding 18 hole course was designed by Dave Thomas and overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. 6847 metres and suitable for all levels of players. Amarilla Golf – Popular Golf and Country Club set in a dramatic mountains and coastal landscape. The 18 hole par 72 course, 6077 metres and 9 hole par 27 course. Play amongst the subtropical plants and pine trees, play the 5th hole over the sea to the green.
Buenavista Golf – This rugged course was designed by Seve Ballesteros, with several greens on the edge of the Atlantic. The 18 hole par 72 course, 6090 metres, offers some pretty tough playing conditions. Putting and chipping practice areas.
Costa Adeje Golf – Designed by Pepe Gancedo combining natural terrain with stone walls and hosted the 2003 Spanish Open. There is an 18 hole par 72 championship course with many doglegs and a 9 hole Las Lagos course. Three level driving range. Large Colonial style clubhouse with excellent catering facilities.
Golf del Sur – Also designed by Pepe Gancedo and hosted Tenerife International Open. Next to the Atlantic Ocean with wide fairways and black volcanic sand bunkers, amongst palm trees and cacti. 18 hole championship course and separate 9 hole course.
Las Americas Golf – With an 18 hole, 6039 metre, par 72 course overlooking the sea this course has hosted many major events. The course has lakes, streams and waterfalls with wonderful sea and mountain views.
There is also the Los Palos 9 hole par 27 golf course near Los Christianos. Designed by Jose Olazabals Company this course is amongst banana trees and suitable for all levels, especially beginners. A great short practice course and ideal for socialising.
