A total of seven Tenerife beaches have been awarded the blue flag this year, granted by the Environmental Education and Consumer Association (ADEAC). The blue flag is an international environmental award which is judged on various factors including, water quality, accessibility, environmental information available to users and respect for legislation.
The Tenerife beaches that have won this recognition are those of El Médano and Leocadio Machado, in Granadilla de Abona; Las Vistas, in Arona; La Arena, in Santiago del Teide; El Socorro, in Los Realejos; Playa Jardín, in Puerto de la Cruz; and La Arena, in Tacoronte. Another welcome boost for Tenerife tourism.
Blue flags are awarded by an international panel of judges made up of representatives of the Nations Programme for the Environment, the World Tourism Organisation, the International Life-Saving Federation, and of a range of organisations devoted to the conservation and protection of nature.
