Tall ships heading for Tenerife

The first leg of the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge 2009 is now underway.

The eleven vessels taking part in the first leg departed from Vigo in northern Spain on 3rd May in excellent conditions. A flotilla of pleasure boats were following the tall ships to the start line which was a couple of miles offshore.

The tall ships are due to arrive in Tenerife on 14th May where they will be in Santa Cruz harbour for several days before they set off on the next leg of the race to Bermuda.
