Tenerife Tall Ships Race Progress
May 8, 2009 Leave a comment
Progress over the past few days has been rather slow due to light winds but 11 knot winds have helped to get the Tall Ships moving again. Some of the crews were able to stop for a swim because progress was so slow. Very strong winds are blowing northwards around Tenerife at the moment.
At the moment the Peter von Danzig (Germany) and Rona II (UK) are battling for first place with six miles between them. Both vessels have around 30 miles to go so they are both expected to cross the finishing line later today. The other vessels are some way behind but with strong winds they should reach Santa Cruz soon after the winners
The Tall Ships were originally scheduled to arrive on 14th May so probably they will be in harbour at Santa Cruz for a longer period than anticipated. They are not scheduled to depart until 17th May which is good news for Tenerifans. Tenerife Tourism will also benefit from the extended period.
